 Our Product - The Otways are blessed by a temperate climate, reliable rainfall and fertile soils, ideal for producing the highest quality farm produce. Otway Prime's objective is to deliver a product that is clean and healthy. Our farm is located in a beautiful sheltered valley, backing onto the Great Otway National Park. One quarter of our land is given over to natural forest and revegetated shelter belts. We believe this is beneficial on many levels including environmental sustainability, being a natural form of carbon storage and emissions offset.
- Otway Prime beef is sourced from vealers and yearlings, under twenty four months of age. Our stock is strictly free ranged and grass fed, with all hay and silage harvested from our own land. Grass fed animals produce leaner, healthier and more flavoursome meat when compared to grain fed beef. This is without compromising on tenderness.
- Otway Prime lamb is locally sourced in the Otways from responsible and experienced growers, that believe in our principles on animal welfare and product quality. Our lamb is genuine young lamb under twelve months of age, never older animals.
- Otway Prime beef and seasonal lamb is produced with reference to Meat Standards Australia guidelines to minimise stress and guarantee meat quality. Our animals are always treated in an ethical and humane manner both on farm, but equally importantly, once they leave the farm. We do not consign animals to bulk transporters, saleyards or other handlers where they can be mixed, roughly handled and exposed to high levels of stress.
- Otway Prime beef and lamb is processed at fully accredited facilities and packed by qualified professional and fully licenced butchers.
- Important to ultimate eating quality, Otway Prime beef is dry aged on the bone for a minimum of two weeks and our lamb is dry aged on the bone for around a week for maximum flavour and tenderness.
- Otway Prime beef is then cut to your preference and wet aged in cryovac packs (vacuum sealed) for a longer refrigerated shelf life and further enhancement of flavour and tenderness. Our lamb is vacuum sealed when the cuts are boned out. It is otherwise presented on trays with plastic wrap. This does mean that lamb has a shorter refrigerated shelf life when compared to beef.
- Our bulk beef packs start with a 15kg pack that incorporates most of the cuts available. We also offer sides of beef in minimum packs of a half side, which is about 30kg. We call this our quarter pack and we only charge for the actual weight received.
- Our bulk lamb packs comprise a whole lamb, which amounts to around 13kg. A broad range of cuts are presented, ensuring our customers receive an interesting and diversified product selection, that lends itself to a variety of cooking styles and techniques.
- We are happy to customise a bulk pack comprising both our beef and lamb. Specialist packs of Otway Prime can be made available by arrangement and pre order, so please contact us directly.
- At all times, our customers only pay for trimmed and packed premium lean meat.
- Otway Prime beef and lamb is available in meal size quantities from the Deans Marsh and Birregurra general stores, McGain's Nursery & Organic Food Store in Anglesea and Lorne Greens. Otway Prime is also served on the menus of selected Surfcoast and Colac Otway pubs and eateries. Alternatively, visit our weekly stall at the Torquay farmer's market each Saturday morning or monthly at the Airey's Inlet farmer's market, Bannockburn's Golden Plains and Newtown farmer's markets.
- We personally home deliver in PrimeSafe registered refrigerated transport to our local area and communities, including Geelong and our nearest towns of Colac, Birregurra, Winchelsea, Moriac and the Surfcoast towns of Deans Marsh, Torquay, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet, Lorne and Wye River. Local area delivery of our bulk packs is free. Please enquire for deliveries outside these areas.
